Defense Attorneys in Karen Read Murder Trial Argue with Judge Over Jury Verdict Slip

Jury Deliberations Underway in Dedham Case

Karen Read Does Not Take Stand in Trial Accusing Her of Killing Police Officer Boyfriend with SUV

DEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ-TV) -- Defense attorneys in the Karen Read murder trial argued with the judge over a jury verdict slip on Thursday. The jury is currently deliberating in the case of Read, who is accused of killing her police officer boyfriend, Matthew Barnes, with her SUV in Dedham in 2019. Read did not take the stand in her own defense. In closing arguments, the prosecution said Read was angry with Barnes and intentionally ran him over. The defense argued that Read's actions were an accident. The jury began deliberating on Wednesday and has not yet reached a verdict.
